Temperature-Controlled Packaging
Lately, the packaging market for some specific types of goods, in particular the pharmaceutical and cosmetic categories as well as, of course, food products, has started an important transformation of the “rules” in use for its packaging by introducing the use of temperature-controlled packaging through the use of innovative solutions.
Products belonging to these categories play a fundamental role in the daily life of all of us and therefore the need to guarantee the integrity and effectiveness of the packaged product becomes essential; Think, for example, of biological products, or medicines such as insulin and other life-saving pharmaceutical compounds.
But what is meant by “temperature-controlled packaging”?
Temperature-controlled packaging is identified as specialized packaging solutions, designed to maintain a specific temperature range of the product during transport and storage.
In the aforementioned product categories, processed products are highly sensitive to temperature variations and, consequently, the correct maintenance of the same at a constant level guarantees that the integrity, efficacy and safety of the packaged product is maintained.
The packaging technology used in the cold chain must ensure that during transport and eventual storage until final delivery to the customer, the products remain sealed and within an appropriate temperature range (generally 2°C to 8°C for refrigerated items or -20°C and lower for frozen products).
Obviously, to ensure the above, the packaging to be used must be adequately designed and manufactured with the use of specific materials and components; the closure of the package must be able to guarantee the impossibility of opening; Despite the external temperatures, insulating and biodegradable materials are used to create thermal insulation in order to ensure optimal temperature maintenance and new cooling components are then used to provide cooling energy to the package.
All this is extremely correct but dangerously exposed to failure if temperature control is not ensured: as often happens, it is the last piece of a chain that is essential for closing the circle…..
